Carpet Water Damage Repair & Water Extraction
Safe and Effective Carpet Water Damage Repair in San Diego and Southern California
If your home has been affected by flooding or water damage, chances are good that your carpet is one of the casualties. Left untreated, carpet water damage can quickly make your home a breeding ground for a wide variety of toxic mold, including black mold.
Dealing with water damaged carpet is one of our first stops during the water damage repair process. Beginning with water extraction from your carpet helps prevent future mold growth in the home, and in some cases we can even save your existing carpeting without replacement.
Stopping the Water Source and Extracting Water from your Carpet
Before we can begin on your carpet flood repair, the first step is to stop the water at its source, followed immediately by rapid water extraction from the carpet. This may require shutting off water to your building, wet vacuuming, or any number of techniques.
Repairing Water Damaged Carpeting
In some cases, it’s possible to repair your water damaged carpet without replacement. This generally requires that your home was only damaged by sanitary flooding (or category 1 water, which comes from water supply lines and fixtures).
In this case, our team will:
- Minimize traffic on the wet carpet to prevent delamination.
- Remove any furniture or contents from the carpet surface, to prevent staining.
- Deploy driers and humidifiers to speed up the carpet drying process.
- In some cases, deploy wet/dry vacs for carpet water extraction.
- In some cases, remove the carpet from the tack strip and replace the carpet padding.
- Disinfect the carpet for your safety.

Replacing Water Damaged Carpeting
If your home has been affected by category 2 or 3 water (chemically contaminated water or sewage water) then it’s absolutely necessary to replace your water damaged carpet. Our contractors take all possible precautions to make sure the contamination is contained while removing your wet carpet and will disinfect the area to prevent any possible spreading. After performing some of the other high priority restoration tasks (such as packing out and itemizing your contents), our team will work with you to help choose a new carpet that will match your home and design sensibilities. Just because you have to replace your carpet doesn’t mean you won’t love your new one.
Is water damaged carpet covered by warranty?
While virtually all carpet manufacturer warrantees are voided by water damage, the vast majority of homeowners’ policies will cover the materials and labor.
Be aware, however, that most homeowners’ insurance policies do not cover environmental flooding. For that you’ll need a separate flood policy available from the NFIP.
